Better Methods to Teach Mathematics

February 25, 2015 by Aide et Action Southeast Asia

Aide et Action held a training program for 27 school directors and teachers on the 20th of August in Phnom Penh. The aim of the training was to provide all participants who are from 3 primary schools of “Education for All, reaching the marginalized” project (Svay Rolum, Prek Thom and Wat Khnong) , with new input and methods on how to teach Mathematics more effectively and creatively for students. Furthermore, the training was designed to provide teachers with more confidence and skills in their lesson planning.

The four main components of the training looked at how to better teach students basic calculation tools, including addition, measurements, subtraction, division and multiplication. To have a better child friendly approach, Mr. Marong CHHOEUNG, AEA’s project officer, who organized and held the training, gave the teachers practical advice on how to design the teaching, including games to make it more playful and diverse for all students to follow.

At the end of training, Mr. Chhoeung expressed his satisfaction with the results as all participants actively participated and shared experiences and knowledge with each other. “It is a good chance for all teachers to participate. They are able to share and learn new activities and mathematic teaching methodologies. Together, we look at challenges but also how to find the possible solutions.I believe after this training, all teachers can improve the teaching and learning environment in their school”, explained Mr. Chhoeung.
