Autism Awareness Day takes place on the 1st April 2016, an event was conducted to raise awareness of Autism and Neurodiversity. This event leaded by The Center for Child and Adolescent Mental Health (Caritas-CCAMH), and Aide et Action International. It also focused much on how we can include children with Autism into society and the classroom. The fear and challenges of children with Autism was also discussed among the group in the workshop.
Autism is a lifelong neurodevelopmental disorder that affects how a person communicates with and relates to other people and how they experience the world around them. Autism is a spectrum disorder which means that although all people with autism have certain difficulties, the way it affects each person is different. People with autism, parents and activists all over the world consider that they have a right to be included in society.
There are four groups of people who joined the workshop. They were parents and teachers of children with Autism and Local NGO staff, INGO staff who work with disability sector, and International School staff.
The workshop finished with an overall positive result. Participants understand more about Autism and how we can help children to overcome and work with it. They can see the ability of children with Autism and they also learn about new term of Neurodiversity, how every person is different and thinks differently. Workshop suggest government to pay more attention on Autism and suggest all relevant partners who work on disability to work together in order to include children with Autism in society.
