23 May Update: Aide et Action’s Global Coronavirus Response Activities

May 23, 2020 by Aide et Action Southeast Asia

To protect the vulnerable populations that we support on a daily basis, our teams are doing everything to provide an emergency response to the Coronavirus crisis. Each week, follow the evolution of our activities in response to the COVID-19 crisis. Here is the update on our various interventions as of 23 May, 2020.

Wherever possible, Aide et Action mobilizes all its human and material resources to develop its projects in favor of the most vulnerable populations. Educating communities on prevention measures and providing them with basic support is our priority. In addition to the activities detailed in our special report, here are the latest developments:

SOUTH ASIA

In India, due to the pandemic all schools are still closed. To guarantee continuity of education and reduce the risk of dropping out of school among children living in rural areas, Aide et Action encouraged groups of mothers to mobilize. These women are part of a project carried out in partnership with the “Transforming Rural India” Foundation, which aims to improve learning outcomes in primary schools. This new initiative, developed in the state of Madhya Pradesh, provides educational activities for children at home.
In addition, specific actions are carried out with migrant children, who are particularly exposed during this period. Aide et Action provides emergency support to families of migrant workers in brickyards and construction sites in Hyderabad. Each family received essential kits containing food and hygiene products. The children received adequate nutritional support. All were made aware of the precautions related to COVID-19. More than 16,000 people have been supported by these activities.

SOUTHEAST ASIA

In Cambodia, our device for installing handwashing stations in remote villages extends to Kampong Thom Province, it will affect 200 new villages and will allow the establishment of 400 stations. In Phnom Penh, the one hundred families we support were able to benefit from our distribution of rice, books, and soaps this month.
In Lao, the schools reopened on May 18. Starting in June, Aide et Action will supply more than 9,600 masks and around 1,000 soaps in partner schools.
In Vietnam, following the pupils’ return to class, 1,500 soaps and 61 bottles of disinfectant were delivered to 3 primary schools in 3 communes of Tien Phong, Doan Ket, and Vay Nua, in the district of Da Bac. Brochures on handwashing and measures to take at home and at school against infectious diseases were also distributed to all of these children. In addition, 5,400 kilos of rice were distributed to 360 poor families with children. These families in particular and local people have recently been affected by different types of natural disasters, so our support was quickly appreciated.

AFRICA

The health situation deteriorates further with an increase in the number of cases. But despite this, the states continue the gradual deconfinement (opening of schools, markets, end of the curfew, etc.).
In Benin, as part of the support for governance of relay initiatives for quality education project, Aide et Action signed an agreement with three community radios and school radio for the dissemination of content for exam classes. 80 schools are beneficiaries of this program allowing 960 students in exam class to follow the lessons on the radio.
In Guinea, thanks to a partnership with the Orange Foundation, Aide et Action distributed 80 sanitary kits made up of 160 buckets, 80 supports, 720 soaps, and 120 cans of bleach. These were handed over to health centers and posts in Dabiss, Walya, Kenende Lory, and Kataly.
In Togo, protection kits made up of hydro-alcoholic gel, handwashes, and soap are made available to 11 communities in the north of the country.
In Madagascar, community awareness sessions were organized in Malagasy (the national language) and others were organized directly in 60 schools.

EUROPE

In France, an emergency fundraising campaign was set up to support our activities on the field.
