High repetition and drop-out rates in the remote areas continue to be pressing challenges for Lao P.D.R. The recent development of Education Quality Standards for primary education in the country has been instrumental in improving basic education. Nonetheless, what is now imperative is that these standards not only reach the schools, but are understood and owned by all primary schools in Laos.
The enrolment of children in our ECCE’s target schools reached more than the target thanks to our key messages speading out to parents on the importance of preschool. School readiness and numeracy among the children we worked with were greaty improved according to the research findings from the University of Geneva and the external evaluation. We also piloted the Education Quality Standard for primiary education to suppot the communities and schools to develop their own school development plan.
